Scott Jones, Director
Scott Jones is the the Distance Learning Director of the Southwest Nebraska Distance Education Network and the Director of Network Operations for ESU 16. He began his career in education in 1995, and was employed by the service agency in 2010. His duties include distance learning coordination, equipment installation, the network's finances, technology plans, and E-rate applications. He holds an Administrative Endorsement and a B.A. in Education from Chadron State College, a M.S. in Instructional Technology from the University of Nebraska, and a Specialist degree from Wayne State College.
Melissa Engel, Telecomputing Coordinator
Melissa Engel has over 31 years of experience in network operations, having spent the majority of her career at Educational Service Unit 16 (ESU 16). Throughout her tenure, she supported schools in the region with their first internet connections and technology integration. Prior to coming to ESU 16, she worked in the library at Central Community College - Platte Campus, where she received her Nebraska Public Librarian Certification, and the library at the K-12 public school in Hulett, Wyoming. With a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Nebraska, Melissa supports continuous improvement, the Carl Perkins Grant Consortium, state initiatives including data collection through ADVISER, student information systems and learning management systems.
Chad DeWester, Technology Consultant
Chad holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and has devoted 19 years to supporting schools while working with Educational Service Units. He specializes in enhancing network operations and promoting cybersecurity awareness. Chad continues to expand his knowledge in the field of network operations and cybersecurity. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors and creating lasting memories with his family.
Nick Maxcy , Distance Learning Coordinator, Network Operations
Nick has a rich history of technology in education, starting with a tenure at Ogallala Public Schools from 2004 to 2008, followed by Sutherland Public Schools from 2008 to 2023. In 2023, Nick joined ESU16, bringing years of experience and a passion for technology to the organization. As an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician and holder of an A+ certification, Nick is highly skilled in computer repair and support, ensuring systems run smoothly and efficiently. Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his two boys, aged 17 and 9. In his free time, he loves playing computer games and tackling puzzles, finding both relaxation and challenge in his hobbies.
