Remote Learning in Remote Nebraska
“In a matter of a few days, I had to completely kind of flip the way that I teach,” says Mullen Public Schools science teacher Sarah Hardin. “I think we’re in uncharted territory.” http://netnebraska.org/basic-page/radio/remote-learning-remote-nebraska
Noise-induced hearing loss is a real thing and appears to be happening at younger ages. Once you lose your hearing it doesn't come back. Students think they are invincible and it won't happen to them, but it can and will if they don't protect their hearing now.
Most student who are evaluated by the ESU 16 Audiologist are referred because they failed a hearing screening that is part of their school's health screening. These evaluations are completed at no charge to the families. Below is a graphic showing the 3 types of hearing loss.
Today two students from the Owls Program celebrated their Educational Program Completion! We are so proud of Hannah Boden and Donavan Freeman! We are so proud of all that these two students have accomplished academically, vocationally and socially! They both will have paid jobs after this celebration of Program Completion! We wish both of you great success in the future! We will miss you but remember, We will be Friends Forever!
Did you know 2-3 out of every 1000 babies born in the United States has some form of hearing loss? ESU 16 provides hearing evaluations to children ages birth-18. If you feel you child is not hearing as well as he/she should, please contact your school district for a referral.

May Is Mental Health Month 2020: Tools 2 Thrive
Since 1949, Mental Health America and our affiliates across the country have led the observance of May is Mental Health Month by reaching millions of people through the media, local events and screenings. We welcome other organizations to join us in spreading the word that mental health is something everyone should care about by using the May is Mental Health Month toolkit materials and conducting awareness activities.
While 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. In 2020, our theme of Tools 2 Thrive will provide practical tools that everyone can use to improve their mental health and increase resiliency regardless of the situations they are dealing with. We now believe that these tools – even those that may need to be adapted for the short term because of COVID-19 and social distancing – will be more useful than ever.

As Nebraska eases back in to reopening, it is good to move forward with caution. As Dr. Bob Rauner states, it is important that we physically distance ourselves, but not socially isolate ourselves. We were made for relationship and know that it is vital for our mental health!
